THE BEST MARGARITA MOCKTAIL INGREDIENTS
My delicious top shelf margarita mocktail recipe is made with good for you and alcohol free ingredients (this will serve 2 people):
- 4 ounces non-alcoholic tequila alternative
- 2 ounces fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce fresh orange juice
- 1 ounce agave syrup
- 2 ounces sparkling water (or kombucha for an extra gut healthy kick)
And of course you'll have to pull it all together with a salted rim glass and a wedge of lime!
HOW DO YOU MAKE MARGARITA MOCKTAILSS TASTE BETTER?
ALWAYS USE HIGH-QUALITY INGREDIENTS. This means the best non-alcoholic tequila substitute and premium orange-flavored syrup or bitters you can find. Cheap alternatives will leave your mocktail tasting flat.
USE FRESH LIME JUICE. Bottled lime juice? Absolutely not. Fresh-squeezed is the only way to get that bright, tangy kick.
SHAKE IT LIKE THE REAL DEAL. A drink shaker isn’t just for boozy cocktails—shaking your mocktail with ice chills it fast, blends flavors perfectly, and gives it that signature frothy top.
AVOID FAKE MIXES AT ALL COSTS. Those neon-green "margarita mixes" are loaded with artificial junk and taste like regret. Stick to real ingredients.
DON’T SKIP THE SALT RIM. It’s not just for looks—the salt enhances every sip, balancing the citrus and agave like a pro.

WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A GOOD MARGARITA MOCKTAIL?
I’ve scoured endless posts with hundreds of glowing 5-star reviews, thinking, "Okay, these people must have cracked the code!" But most mocktail margaritas out there? Weak, flat, and missing that punchy tang we crave. I wanted big, bold flavor—the perfect balance of sour, sweet, and sophistication, just like the ones I sipped on vacation (minus the booze, of course).
Here are my tips to make a truly unforgettable margarita mocktail:
- ALWAYS USE HIGH-QUALITY INGREDIENTS—Skip the cheap syrups and find a top-shelf non-alcoholic tequila alternative (trust me, it matters).
- DITCH THE FAKE TRIPLE SEC—Use a real orange zest infusion, orange bitters, or a premium non-alcoholic orange liqueur substitute.
- NEVER—EVER—USE A MARGARITA MIX—Those neon-green bottles are full of artificial junk. Fresh is the only way.
- FRESH LIME JUICE OR BUST—Bottled lime juice is a crime against flavor. Squeeze it fresh or don’t bother.
- SALT THE DAMN RIM—It’s not just for looks. That salty-sweet contrast is everything.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST MARGARITA MOCKTAIL ON THE ROCKS (FOR TWO!)
For my top-shelf margarita mocktail, you’ll need:
- 2 margarita or cocktail glasses
- A shot glass (for measuring)
- A lime/lemon juicer
- A drink shaker
STEP 1: PREPARE THE GLASS
- Take ½ of a lime and run it along the rims of both glasses
- Dip each glass into flaky sea salt (or Tajín for a spicy kick)
- Fill the glasses to the top with ice (big cubes melt slower!)
Pro Tip: For an extra-sticky rim, dab a little agave nectar on the edge before salting—it helps the salt stay put!
STEP 2: SHAKE IT UP
Fill your drink shaker ¼ of the way with ice, then add your margarita mocktail ingredients:
- 4 ounce premium non-alcoholic tequila (like Ritual Zero Proof or Lyre’s)
- 2 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice (approximately 2 limes)
- 1 ounce fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 ounce agave syrup
Cover and SHAKE HARD until the shaker is frosty—about 15 seconds.
STEP 3: STRAIN & SERVE
Strain the best margarita mocktail recipe you'll ever drink into the prepared glasses. Top with a splash of plain sparkling water or kombucha. Enjoy!
You can also finish your margarita mocktail recipe with a dash of orange bitters for even more flavor if you like!

Thank you so much for this. I will try out right away. The question is, is that Himalayan salt in the video?
Rosemary
I can't wait to hear what you think! Yes, I used pink Himalayan salt on mine <3

TOO SOUR. I actually used the exact same ingredients and amounts called for but made this into a frozen margarita. So, with the addition of at least 3 cups of ice, the recipe was still too sour.
To remedy the acidity and sourness, I added extra Agave Nectar, in which, one could also add simple syrup or honey as well.
This is just a pretentious margarita as Patron, Grand Marnier, and Organic Agave Nectar are not cost effective. You could still have a nice tasting drink with Triple Sec, Cuervo, and Simple Syrup.

This is the best margarita I ever had!! I used exact ingredients shook it over ice and every one of my friends was sooo impressed! Thank you!!!!
Rose
Love love love this drink!!! Far more flavor and quality! I had margaritas at fancy restaurants and none compare to the amount of flavor your margarita had!!

There is so much lime juice in this recipe I really do not think it would matter to me what else was used. I have never seen a sour where the juice volume was more than the base spirit. But I like stiff drinks and want to taste the liquor. I do like top shelf margaritas with reposado and some agave nectar. I prefer Cointreau but will float a small amount Grand Mariner at end. Obviously many people like this limearita but for me it is way to tart. Also it is probably healthier than my boozy concoctions.

Mostly lime?

Also 2:3 agave:tequila? Wow limeade
Cheryl
What is agave nectar??
Rosemary
It's like a syrup from the Agave plant! Similar consistency to honey- you can find agave in the baking aisle usually!

Aloha, yes your recipe is definitely top shelf. I'm not sure if you have ever tried this, but in Hawaii we also use li hing mui powder. It's a used for candy and for dried fruits like mangos and pineapple, but it also works well for salting the rim of margaritas. Some people (including me) find that the Li hing mui can be a little over powering, so I mix it with sea salt to thin it down a bit so it doesn't take away from the taste of the margarita. But it adds a very nice twist to the original. It's actually kind of addicting. If you try it once, you'll most likely use it and crave it from that moment on. Kinda like the 1st time you tried putting salt on watermelon, but better. In fact Li hing mui is great on watermelon.
I have actually added powder to a bottle of gold tequila and made margaritas that way too.
Anyway, just wanted to pass that on. Mahalo for your recipe.
