Fall is my favorite season in upstate New York. There is so much produce to cook with, from the pie pumpkins, to the butternut squash, to the fresh picked apples! I used to make it over the stove, but then I discovered how many things you can make much faster in the instant pot.

    WHY APPLES ARE HEALTHY

You know what they've always said, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. And while we know that it takes more than an apple to stay healthy, eating apples is healthy!

Apples are loaded with nutrients. They have fiber, vitamin C, potassium, vitamin K, and some smaller amounts of other vitamins.

They are rich in polyphenols. Polyphenols are plant compounds that are packed with antioxidants that have a wide range of health benefits like weight loss, improved digestion, blood sugar control, and improved heart health.

Apples are an excellent source of prebiotics. Prebiotics feed the good gut bugs that improve your mood, digestion, and even your skin health!

HEALTHY INSTANT POT APPLESAUCE (NO SUGAR) INGREDIENTS

    • Apples: use any kind of apples that you like in this applesauce.
    • Cinnamon sticks: use whole cinnamon sticks or substitute ground cinnamon.

    • Pink salt
    • Optional sweeteners: you can use maple syrup or honey if you like your applesauce sweeter.

TIPS FOR MAKING THE BEST INSTANT POT APPLESAUCE

USE YOUR FAVORITE APPLES! If you like naturally sweet no sugar applesauce, use a sweeter apple variety like red delicious or gala.

USE WHOLE CINNAMON STICKS. Whole cinnamon sticks add amazing flavor to your applesauce without giving it a gritty texture.

    REMOVE CINNAMON STICKS AFTER COOKING.

USE AN IMMERSION BLENDER. Blend applesauce to a puree right in your instant pot using your immersion blender. Less mess less dishes!

HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT APPLESAUCE

Choose the type of apples that you want to use. Any kind of apples work in this instant pot apple sauce!

This recipe calls for 3 pounds of apples, which is about 10 apples. Peel and core your apples. Slice the apples into chunks and put them in the instant pot. Add 2 cinnamon sticks, ½ cup water, and ¼ cup of sea salt along with the apples. Add any sweetener that you like. Stir to combine the mixture.

Set your instant pot to the pressure cook high setting for 5 minutes and turn the steam valve to natural release (sealing).

After the applesauce has steamed for 5 minutes, allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes. Then, quick release the rest of the pressure.

Remove the cinnamon sticks and your instant pot applesauce is ready to be enjoyed!

If you want to puree your applesauce, use an immersion blender to puree it.

This recipe makes about 3 cups of pureed applesauce.
