DARK CHOCOLATE LATTE INGREDIENTS
What is a chocolate latte latte made of? You may be wondering how a chocolate latte could be so easy to make. But there is no fancy equipment required and no hard to find ingredients. Here's what you need to make one of these chocolate lattes at home:
- chocolate truffle
- milk of choice
- fresh espresso or hot coffee
IS IT GOOD TO MIX DARK CHOCOLATE WITH COFFEE?
Yes! The rich flavor of dark chocolate mixed with a bold coffee is so luxurious and delicious. I recommend using 60-70% dark chocolate since that will melt into the hot coffee much better than an even darker chocolate. Chocolate will give the coffee a sweet pleasant taste that is sweet enough to enjoy without sugar!
IS A LATTE HEALTHIER THAN COFFEE?
Typically, a latte is a healthier choice than regular coffee because it contains more milk, which will give you more fat and protein in your stomach, so more nutrients for your body if you don't use sugar. However, if you are looking at calories alone, coffee has less calories than a latte.
As a registered dietitian, I recommend espresso with unsweetened steamed milk or regular coffee with organic cream no sugar for the healthiest choice.
TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST DARK CHOCOLATE LATTE!
USE 60-70% DARK CHOCOLATE. The darker the chocolate, the harder it is to melt. Using dark chocolate at 60-70% in your espresso still gets you the healthy cacao benefits, but melts much easier than super dark chocolate.
BREW ESPRESSO OR POUR COFFEE RIGHT ON TOP OF CHOCOLATE. The hot espresso or coffee begins to melt the chocolate as soon as it touches it. Much easier to mix in than dropping the chocolate in after the coffee is poured.
WHISK DARK CHOCOLATE INTO ESPRESSO. Use a fork or very small whisk to mix the chocolate into the espresso evenly.
USE A MILK STEAMER. This will give you delicious frothy milk for a light fluffy latte texture!
HOW TO MAKE A CHOCOLATE LATTE AT HOME
My dark chocolate latte recipe is so easy to make! If you do not have an espresso maker, not to worry. Simply use strong brewed coffee instead! Also, if you do not have a milk steamer, you can heat your milk over the stove till it is hot and pour it over the coffee and chocolate.
STEP 1: BREW ESPRESSO OVER CHOCOLATE
First, add 1 dark chocolate truffle to the bottom of your cup. Place it under your espresso maker and brew 2 shots of espresso on top.
Next, use a fork or small whisk to mix the dark chocolate into your espresso completely.
STEP 2: STEAM MILK
Pour 1 cup of any kind of milk into your milk steamer and steam till hot and frothy.
STEP 3: POUR MILK AND SERVE WITH COCOA POWDER GARNISH
Pour your frothed milk on top of the dark chocolate espresso.
Enjoy!
