WHAT IS A DIRTY MATCHA LATTE?
What is in a dirty matcha latte? Like a dirty chai tea latte, a dirty matcha is made up of the main drink, a matcha latte, and then topped with a double shot of espresso. Most coffee shops typically make this an iced drink. It is a gorgeous layered drink of color and so much flavor and gives you an extra dose of caffeine!
INGREDIENTS IN A DIRTY MATCHA LATTE
My dirty iced matcha latte recipe is so easy to make at home, there's no need to spend almost $10 for one at the coffee shop!
- 1 cup ice cubes use more if you have a larger glass
- 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
- ¼ cup hot but not boiling water for the matcha
- ¾ cup milk of choice
- 2 shots espresso
- 2 teaspoons sweetener of choice (or more if you like your dirty matcha even sweeter)
IS ESPRESSO GOOD IN MATCHA?
You may think that the espresso will take over the flavor of the matcha. But, together the matcha and espresso fusion create a distinct and flavorful drink.
IS MATCHA HEALTHY FOR YOU?
Yes! Matcha is loaded with disease fighting antioxidants. Matcha is ground up green leaf tea, which packs a lot of benefits in just 1 teaspoon! It is excellent for gut health, skin health, reducing inflammation all over the body, and even great for your mood!

MAKE MY DIRTY MATCHA LATTE RECIPE AT HOME!
This is the best dirty matcha latte recipe out there and it is so easy to make! You just need a few simple ingredients and your dirty matcha will be ready in no time
Step 1: Make your espresso. I like to make my espresso first because this lets it cool down while you prepare the rest of your drink.
Step 2: Fill your glass with ice. The more ice the better! Especially if you like the pretty layering effect.
Step 3: Make your matcha. Mix ¼ cup hot water with the matcha powder. Add any sweetener. I like to think that the sweetener adds a bit of "weight" to the matcha and helps it stay at the bottom.
Step 4: slowly pour the ¾ cup of milk over the top of the matcha. The slower you pour, the less likely it will disturb the layering effect.
Step 5: add your espresso! And enjoy the best dirty iced matcha latte recipe ever!
TIPS ON MAKING A DIRTY MATCHA ICED!
- If you want to get the cool layering effect, like in the picture, use a LOT of ice.
- Also, the coldness helps. Start by making your espresso while you prepare the matcha. This allows time for the espresso to cool down. Because no one wants melted ice and a watery latte.
- First, pour the matcha green tea. Then, slowly pour the remainder of the milk. The slower you pour, the more distinct the layers will be! Then, pour the cooled espresso over the top!
VARIATIONS
- DIRTY MATCHA LATTE HOT: To make a dirty matcha latte hot, simply skip the ice and steam your milk instead! After whisking the matcha green tea powder into the hot water, add any sweetener you like. Then, pour in steamed milk and top with 2 shots of hot espresso!
- DIRTY MATCHA LATTE RECIPE WITH COFFEE: If you don't have an espresso maker but still want to try out a dirty matcha, you can still make one using extra strong coffee! Brew your coffee at double strength and then pour about ¼ cup of the coffee over top the matcha latte.
