If you have ever tried an orange julius smoothie at dairy queen, or anywhere else you know how good it is! But most restaurants make it with sugar and other not so healthy ingredients. I wanted to take the original orange julius and make it healthy!
My recipe is so easy to make and a super delicious treat! It has a couple servings of fruit, healthy fats, and enough protein that you can drink it as a healthy breakfast!

ARE ORANGE JULIUS SMOOTHIES HEALTHY?
Unfortunately the original orange julius is made with so much sugar that it is similar to drinking a can of soda! You do get some vitamin C from the orange juice, but there's almost no protein and no fiber. Make my healthy orange julius copycat smoothie instead!

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A JULIUS AND A SMOOTHIE?
The orange julius was created in the early 1900's with a blend of orange juice, milk, vanilla, sugar and ice. It's more of a frozen dessert drink than a smoothie and doesn't actually have any whole fruit like a smoothie does.
DOES ORANGE JULIUS HAVE SMOOTHIES?
Yes! Orange julius has a few different flavors like mango pineapple and strawberry banana. But, I would not recommend ordering one if you want a healthy drink. Their smoothies are made with sugar, corn syrup, and other artificial ingredients.
MAKE MY EASY ORANGE JULIUS SMOOTHIE RECIPE!
My orange julius is so easy to make at home, you just need a couple easy to find ingredients and a blender.
STEP 1- ADD INGREDIENTS TO YOUR BLENDER
In your blender add my healthy ingredients:
- 1 ¼ cup orange juice (I used fresh 100% orange juice)
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen mango chunks
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- ½ cup coconut milk
STEP 2- BLEND AND ENJOY!
Turn your blender on medium to high speed. Keep blending till it is smooth and you don't see any chunks of frozen fruit left.
Pour into a large glass, or divide between two smaller glasses.

No, you can still find the drink at various locations around the country!
Does Orange Julius use real fruit?
The original recipe does not actually have any fruit at all and uses a frozen orange juice concentrate instead. Their smoothies do use some real fruit, however they add sugar to them and turn a healthy drink into an unhealthy one.
How do I make an orange julius strawberry banana smoothie recipe?
Use my recipe below, and substitute the 1 cup of frozen mango for 1 cup of frozen strawberries for an easy healthy smoothie recipe.
How do I make an orange smoothie with yogurt and no banana?
Instead of the 1 frozen banana in my recipe below, substitute it for either 1 cup more frozen mango or 1 cup frozen pineapple.
