WHAT CAN I USE INSTEAD OF BANANAS IN SMOOTHIES?
I get asked this question all the time! Bananas are super healthy for you, and I love adding them to smoothies, like my Easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie. But, a lot of people have asked me to make more smoothie recipes without bananas so here are some of the fruits I use instead:
- Strawberries
- Mangoes
- Pineapple
- Blueberries
- Cherries
- Dragon Fruit
Really any fruit that you love you can add to smoothies! Just make sure to use frozen fruit in your smoothies to have that delicious cold and refreshing smoothie texture without having to add ice cubes.
HOW TO MAKE A THICK CREAMY SMOOTHIE?
There are so many ways to thicken a smoothie without banana or avocado! Here are my top 4 tips to get a delicious thick and creamy smoothie every time:
- Use Frozen Fruit. Frozen fruit will give you that thick creamy smoothie texture without having to add ice cubes.
- Keep it Simple. It's tempting to blend in so many ingredients and powders to your smoothie, but I like to keep to 4-5 smoothie ingredients max.
- Add Enough Liquid, but Not Too Much. Unless your trying to make a thick smoothie bowl, make sure you are using enough milk or water to help your ingredients blend smooth. I stick to about ½ cup liquid per cup of frozen fruit.
- Use a High Quality Blender. Not all blenders are made equally, so pick one that has a strong enough motor to finely puree frozen fruits and vegetables.
HOW TO MAKE AN EASY STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE WITH NO BANANA AT HOME
STEP 1: ADD ALL INGREDIENTS TO YOUR BLENDER
In your blender, add:
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- ½ cup whole milk yogurt
- 1 ½ cups coconut water
STEP 2: BLEND UNTIL COMPLETELY SMOOTH AND CREAMY
Start your blender on low, pushing your strawberry smoothie ingredients down towards the blades.
Turn up the speed as your smoothie starts to puree and keep on blending until you see no strawberry chunks left.
STEP 3: ENJOY!
Pour your healthy strawberry smoothie into a glass and enjoy! Smoothies do not store well, so they are best drank immediately.
HOW TO MAKE A THICK STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE WITH CHIA PUDDING
If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you'll remember that I used to make most of my smoothies with chia pudding on the bottom. While these chia pudding smoothies are super healthy and also beautiful to look at, they do take more time.
I've been updating all my old chia pudding smoothie recipes to make it much more easy for you guys to replicate at home. If you want to make the original version of this strawberry smoothie recipe with chia, here's how:
- Make a chia pudding in the bottom of a glass by mixing 2 tablespoons of chia pudding with ½ cup milk. Let the chia soak for about 10 minutes.
- Make a thick strawberry smoothie by using the same ingredients as above, except only about ¼ cup of coconut water instead.
- Pile the thick strawberry smoothie on top of the chia pudding and enjoy!
