The best mojito recipe you'll ever make! This delicious mojito is made just like the best mojitos in Mexico. So take a vacation with me while we make the most delicious mojito recipe ever!
My husband and I have been trying to perfect the mojito for awhile now and thanks to one of my best friends, finally nailed it! In the past we simply muddled the mint leaves in the glass, and then added the other ingredients. But some of the flavor was still missing!
So one of my best friends told me about this little Mojito bar she went to in Mexico that's known as one of the best mojito bars in the world. She said that ever since drinking their mojitos she can't go back to the other way!
And the secret is.. they grind the mint leaves with the sugar to form a minty paste that blends so perfectly into your mojito! My perfect mojito does take a little extra time, but it is SO worth it and tastes so much better than your average mojito. And aren't the good things in life worth a little extra work anyway?
WHAT IS THE BEST MOJITO MADE OF?
The ingredients are simple, fresh and delicious! Here's what you'll need to make the best mojito recipe:
- Fresh spearmint leaves
- Sugar (I use raw cane sugar)
- Fresh limes
- Top shelf white rum (I use Bacardi)
- Ice cubes
- Sparkling lime water (I use La Croix)
And that's it!
HOW DO YOU MAKE MOJITOS TASTE BETTER?
Mojitos will taste better when you add enough of the "flavoring ingredients." I've seen bartenders at really nice bars and restaurants use only 2-3 mint leaves, skip muddling the leaves, and even leave out fresh lime juice all together!
To make a delicious mojito, it'll take a little more time, but the outcome is SO delicious and flavorful.
WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A GOOD MOJITO?
The secret to a perfect mojito is in the quality of the ingredients and the preparation. Don't just mash the mint leaves a couple of times and expect to get a strong sweet mint flavor! Here are my top tips I've learned over the years of trial and error.
GRIND MINT LEAVES WITH SUGAR! Grinding mint leaves into a paste with the sugar is a total game changer for your mojito. This allows the mint flavor to really stand out in your drink instead of being a weak after taste.
DON'T SKIP THE SUGAR! It might be tempting to skip the sugar, but a mojito is a treat and an indulgence so in my opinion, don't try to make it healthy. Enjoy a perfect mojito once instead of a weak and watery one. Life is short.
ALWAYS USE FRESH LIME JUICE! Fresh lime juice will always taste better than bottled lime juice.
BUY THE BEST RUM YOU CAN AFFORD. Top shelf liquor tastes so much better in mojitos and gives a very smooth taste.
HOW TO MAKE THE BEST MOJITO LIKE YOU'RE IN MEXICO!
These are the ingredients to make 1 mojito, so if you're making them for more than one person, multiply the ingredients I've described below! Don't skip any of these steps because they all play an important role.
STEP 1: MUDDLE MINT LEAVES WITH SUGAR
Start by removing the leaves from about 4 sprigs of fresh spearmint. This is about 30 mint leaves. Add them to a mortar and pestle. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar on top of the mint leaves. Grind the mint into the sugar until a paste forms and you no longer see big pieces of mint.
Scoop the mint and sugar paste into the bottom of a glass.
STEP 2: ADD FRESH LIME JUICE AND RUM
Next, add the juice of 4 limes to your glass along with a shot and a half of top shelf rum. Fill the glass half way with ice cubes and stir to combine.
STEP 3: ADD SPARKLING LIME WATER AND ENJOY!
Finally, fill your glass to the top with sparkling lime water, I used about a half can. My husband likes his mojitos more carbonated and I like them less carbonated. So add a bit and adjust to your fizzy preference. 🙂
Stir one more time, add your garnishes and enjoy!
