Tequila smash! This is my very first tequila smash recipe, and I thought it was so delicious I just had to share it with you! Fresh smashed strawberries, mint and tequila. What could be more perfect on a hot summer day?
I think the best thing about tequila smash recipes is how customizable they are! You basically smash whatever fruit is in season, add tequila and a bit of sparking water and you have a delicious easy summer cocktail!
I love a good mojito or margarita in the summer, but after all the grinding of the mint leaves and squeezing so many limes they can take some time! What I love about my tequila smash recipe is that you can make it in 1 glass in just a couple of minutes.
TEQUILA SMASH INGREDIENTS
- Fresh strawberries
- Fresh mint leaves
- Patron anejo tequila
- Fresh squeezed lime juice
- Agave nectar
- Sparkling lime water
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TEQUILA SMASH AND A MARGARITA?
And if you're like me and also looked up the difference between a tequlia smash and a mojito.. it's tequila vs rum!
TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST TEQUILA SMASH
USE A COCKTAIL MUDDLER! The flat bottom of a muddler will really smash your strawberries to a fine pulp!
SMASH STRAWBERRIES REALLY WELL! If you are not going to strain your drink, smash strawberries till they are not chunky at all. If you're straining your drink don't worry about it.
USE FRESH MINT LEAVES! Fresh mint leaves are a must in any cocktail!
ALWAYS USE HIGH QUALITY TEQULIA. Headaches aside from drinking cheap tequila, high quality tequila just is so much better tasting.

HOW TO MAKE A STRAWBERRY TEQUILA SMASH!
I made my tequila smash recipe for 1 person to make it easy for you to multiply by how ever many people you are serving!
STEP 1 Smash strawberries and mint leaves
Smash 3 strawberries in the bottom of your glass with a couple of fresh spearmint leaves.
STEP 2 Add tequila and sweetener
Add a shot and a half of tequila, a shot of agave nectar, and the juice of 1 lime. Stir to combine.
STEP 3 Add ice and sparkling water
Fill half way with ice cubes. And then fill with sparkling lime water, I used about ½ cup but my husband likes his more fizzy so I added more in his glass.
Hope you guys love this one as much as we did!
FAQ'S
Do I have to strain the strawberries to serve my tequila smash?
No, but you can if you want to! You can leave the smashed strawberries right in the glass. They will tend to float in your drink, so no worries about getting a clogged straw.
What kind of tequila goes in a tequila smash drink?
I used patron anejo, if you like a different kind of tequila, you can use that instead! Some people prefer silver tequila in their tequila cocktails.
What can I use if I don't have a cocktail muddler?
You can try to mash your fruit with a fork, but this may take awhile. For a quicker method, throw your strawberries in a small blender and pulse until they are pureed!
Can I substitute anything for agave to make my cocktail sweeter?
Yes! Use honey or simple syrup. Or, if you don't like your drinks too sweet, simply leave the sweetener out since strawberries are naturally sweet!
