Iced Matcha Latte with Sweet Cold Foam Recipe! If you love matcha lattes, this is the recipe for you. A delicious and lightly sweetened iced matcha latte, topped with a creamy sweet cold foam. This iced matcha recipe includes different flavors of cold foam you can make at home for your matcha latte!

I've been an iced matcha latte lover for years now, but have never actually ordered one from Starbucks because I saw how much sugar is in one. And you can't simply ask for it less sweet or unsweetened because their matcha powder itself has sugar in it! So if you want to drink iced matcha for all those amazing health benefits, try out this recipe today!

Sweet cold foam is so tasty on top of iced coffee, like the Brown Sugar Cookie Cold Foam, the Cinnamon Caramel Cold Foam, and the White Chocolate Macadamia Cold Foam.

I thought that the cold foams could only be ordered on coffee, but they all can also be ordered on top of matcha too! So I'm going to show you how to make a healthier matcha and the cold foam for the top!

Want to learn how to make Starbucks and Dunkin recipes at home, but healthier? Make sure to read my Healthy Iced Caramel Macchiato Tutorial, featuring my homemade healthy date caramel recipe that can also be used in tons of my healthy dessert recipes!

ICED MATCHA LATTE WITH COLD FOAM INGREDIENTS

The ingredients in my iced matcha latte recipe with sweet cold foam are super simple and straightforward.

Ingredients in the Iced Matcha Latte:

    • 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
    • ½ cup hot water (not boiling)
    • ½ cup milk of choice
    • Sweetener (optional)

Ingredients in the Sweet Cold Foam:

    • 1 tablespoons heavy cream (or coconut cream if you’re dairy free)
    • 1 tablespoon milk of choice
    • 1 teaspoon+ honey or maple syrup
    • ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

IS A MATCHA LATTE GOOD WITH COLD FOAM?

My matcha latte is creamy, earthy, subtly sweet and tastes incredible topped with sweet cold foam! You can add different flavors of cold foam like sweet vanilla cold foam, strawberry cold foam, and more!

See the variations section at the bottom of this post for different cold foam recipes you can add on top of your iced matcha latte.

IS THE ICED MATCHA LATTE HEALTHY?

If you feel jittery and anxious after your morning coffee, matcha lattes are a great healthy alternative! Instead of a quick spike and then drop in energy levels, matcha latte has a very slow & sustained boost of energy levels. Plus, matcha green tea powder is loaded with tons of incredible healthy benefits!

Health benefits of matcha green tea:

    • High in antioxidants (137x the amount of regular green tea)
    • Liver protective
    • Boosts brain function
    • High in anti-cancer compound called ECGC
    • Stress reduction thanks to L-theanine
    • Boosts energy
    • Gut healthy!

WHAT DOES AN ICED MATCHA LATTE TASTE LIKE?

Matcha has a very subtle earthy taste with a slight nuttiness. Some people describe plain unsweetened matcha as having a spinach like flavor. When made into a latte with milk and honey, matcha green tea tastes very sweet, soothing, and refreshing.

WHAT KIND OF MATCHA SHOULD I USE IN A MATCHA LATTE?

You should use a ceremonial grade matcha green tea powder for your matcha latte recipes. There are many brands of ceremonial grade powders, and the one you choose really depends on your taste preference and budget! Some matcha green tea powders are sweeter and mellow, while others are potent and slightly bitter. Good matcha brands will tell you what the flavor profile of their teas are.

Starbucks uses a sweetened green tea powder for all their matcha drinks. This powder combines a Japanese matcha green tea powder and sugar. If you are making a homemade matcha latte and want to control the amount of sugar your drink has, there is no need to use a sweetened green tea powder. But you may be looking at the different matcha green tea powders and wondering what kind to use.

There are 3 grades of matcha green tea powder, determined by the quality of the appearance, leaf, growing methods, processing methods, and texture.

    • Ceremonial Grade (best for drinking)
    • Premium Grade
    • Culinary Grade (best for cooking & baking)

HOW TO MAKE A STARBUCKS ICED MATCHA LATTE WITH COLD FOAM AT HOME!

Starbucks Iced Matcha Latte with Cold Foam is incredibly easy to make at home! Let's start by making the iced matcha latte recipe. All you need is 3 simple ingredients for this healthy and easy matcha latte recipe.

    1. 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
    2. ¼ cup hot (not boiling water)
    3. ½-1 cup milk of choice

You can also add sweetener to your matcha latte, but I find that the sweet cream in this recipe makes it sweet enough for me!

STEP 1: MAKE THE ICED MATCHA LATTE

There are 2 ways to make this matcha latte: either with a traditional matcha whisk, or in a blender. The blender is an excellent option if you don't have a matcha whisk.

    For the traditional matcha method:

    1. Add 1 teaspoon sifted matcha green tea powder to the bottom of a wide flat mug, or matcha mug.
    2. Slowly pour ¼ cup of hot water over the matcha whisk into your mug. You want your whisk to be damp to work properly.
    3. Whisk the water into the matcha using up and down, then back and forth swipes with your whisk until all the matcha is incorporated into the water.
    4. Fill a glass with iced cubes, pour in ½ cup of milk.
    5. Pour your matcha on top of the milk.
    6. If you like a lighter green, or more diluted matcha flavor, simply add more milk!

    For the blender matcha method:

    1. Add 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder, ¼ cup of water, and ½ cup of milk to a blender.
    2. Blend on medium speed until the matcha is completely incorporated into the milk.
    3. Fill a glass with ice cubes.
    4. Pour your blended matcha over the top.

And you can add any sweetener you like to either of these, after the matcha is mixed into the milk.

STEP 2: MAKE THE SWEET COLD FOAM

Next is the delicious Starbucks sweet cold foam for your iced matcha latte!

Grab a glass or a milk frothing jar and add all of these ingredients:

    • 1 tablespoons heavy cream (or coconut cream if you’re dairy free)
    • 1 tablespoon milk of choice
    • 1 teaspoon+ honey or maple syrup
    • ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Use a hand held milk frother and froth until the sweet cold foam is thick, but not as thick as whipped cream. It should be the consistency of foam, aka the cold foam!

You can also use a blender if you don't have a small cold frother tool at home.

Pour your sweet cold foam over your matcha latte and enjoy!

    STRAWBERRY CREAM COLD FOAM RECIPE:

    • 1 tablespoon milk of choice
    • ½ tablespoon pureed fresh or frozen strawberries
    • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • ½ tablespoon pure raw honey

    LAVENDAR CREAM COLD FOAM RECIPE:

    • 1 tablespoon heavy cream or coconut cream
    • 1 tablespoon milk of choice
    • 1 tablespoon lavender syrup
    • ½ teaspoon goji berry powder or purple sweet potato powder (optional for purple color)
    Starbucks lavender cold foam recipe

For the homemade lavender syrup, I could not find fresh culinary lavender so I used lavender tea bags. In a pot, add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, and 4 lavender tea bags. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. Cool completely with the tea bags still inside.

Discard the tea bags and you can store lavender syrup at room temperature up to a month on your coffee bar! (Sugar will preserve your syrup).

    FAQ'S

Frequently asked questions about my iced matcha latte with cold foam recipe.

IS IT OK TO DRINK MATCHA EVERY DAY?

Yes! You can definitely drink 1 cup of matcha every day. Stick to just 1 cup of matcha a day, as excess of anything is not a good thing.

CAN YOU ADD COLD FOAM TO AN ICED LATTE?

Yes! You can add cold foam to iced coffee, iced lattes & macchiatos, iced matcha green tea, and even refreshers!

WHAT IS A DIRTY MATCHA AT STARBUCKS?

Like a dirty chai, a dirty matcha latte is made up of an iced matcha latte topped with a double shot of espresso. The result is a beautiful coffee drink layered with color and flavor, and pumped up with an extra dose of caffeine.
